Post subject:  The Matrix fanboy thread

Just thought I'd start this thread because I'm completely obsessed with The Matrix and with being like Neo. I'm such a devout Neo fanboy, I've made efforts to emulate scenes from the movie in real life. Not the fighting, but more the technology.

Like the White Rabbit scene for example, where it shows Neo's apartment at night after he falls asleep while searching for Morpheus. I've attempted to alter my Chinkpad to look like Neo's computer, replacing the built-in peripherals with a desktop keyboard, mouse, and monitor. I wasn't able to get a CRT at the dump (I'll keep looking) but I did get one with the classic 4:3 aspect ratio that has manual color calibration, so I can turn the red and blue channels off and make it look like a green-screen terminal.

I also did some Internet research to figure out what song was playing in Neo's headphones in that scene (spoiler: It's Dissolved Girl by Massive Attack) and I've pirated it and started playing it on speaker (okay, maybe a pair of audiophile headphones would be more in line with the movie, but whatever). It's a decent song, and it adds a sort of mysterious 90's vibe to my battlestation.

Anyway, I kinda rambled there. Just wanted to start this thread to talk about one of my favorite movies of all time.

I have a CRT in storage. Doesn't feel right to throw her away.

Also, I watched some matrix fanworks on newgrounds - a movie called Super Mario Reloaded a long time ago and now Agent Smith and Luigi are one and the same for me.

There's actually a fairly large contingent of CRT fanatics on /g/. You can see it when they post their setups in the battlestation threads that we have there. A lot of misfit computer nerds like to emulate the old "90's movie hacker cave" look with their rigs.

I've had some difficulty finding a good CRT, but I think it's mostly just bad luck. There were a bunch of them at the dump when I first went but they were all TVs, and the only monitor there was so dirty it seemed nonfunctional. When I went back the other day, they had just gotten rid of everything in the TV/monitor bunker, so I'll have to wait until they fill up again. I was able to get a CRT for my C64 online for a decent price, but I'm looking for one with VGA input, and they're surprisingly expensive/hard to find for some strange reason.
