Just because I wanted to. For some reason this really bugged Rosie as she couldn't get her head around the concept that I simply wanted to watch part of it because I had seen commercials for it.

In any case, the part I was interested in most was where they reveal each others salaries. And I kept thinking "this is a tech related company. You guys are all only making that much?"

Rosie's still alive?! Tell her to get on! I need to learn all I know about CSS!.

...

Also, I'm curious. How much do techies earn on that hemisphere of the world?

Rosie is definitely still alive (she's next to me right now in fact).

Tech stuff is pretty wide ranged I guess depending on where you are, what exact field and such. I myself was working as a Tech Manager for about $24K a year, but that was because of weird circumstances for a non-profit. Elsewhere I would have made a hell of a lot more. I now do Tier 3 Tech support, and make closer to $60K, and from what I understand that's pretty average or low for a lot of tech related jobs. I could be off though.

I'm still learning college-level IT stuff. I hope to secure a semi-decent job so I can quit being a burden and actually balance my own checkbook.

Well, that would be good. The key thing to do though is learn and experiment with stuff outside the classroom as much as possible. The amount of IT knowledge anyone that is good gets from formal learning is pretty minimal, unfortunately. Classes and online stuff is useful, and a good way to get into it, but you really need to branch out and take a serious interest on the side as well. This kinda thing ends up building your resume too and will come in handy when talking to a company that is really good and knows what they are doing as well.

I'm currently studying CSS, HTML and Python. I also hope to master java and C## as well. Hopefully work part time at a game making company and build up my portfolio from there.

That's good, just keep a solid interest outside of that stuff. Get yourself a stack overflow account, that's a huge thing, and will be useful to you anyway.
