If we developed virtual worlds and telecommuting technology, we could get rid of the need to go to an office to work. This would reduce a lot of traffic and urban congestion in general, but it would likely encourage and even more sedentary lifestyle. Still, with the extra time not spent driving, sitting on a bus or a train or what have you, people could go do something like walk around, play some outdoor games, and the like. And since they could live further away, perhaps they would have more park or hiking land to do such things. You'd still have to deal with access to food though, even if you transferred most social and entertainment interactions to a virtual world.

That's a random line of thought - but have you considered the proliferation of 'home delivery food' online? We're getting to the age where we can order food online. It started off with cash on delivery, but now, paypal and even bitcoins can be used to pay for your transactions.
