And then I learn that around 1 year ago, Nintendo shut down the GTS servers for their DS generation pokemon games.
I guess I am annoyed.
Note to self: Must research getting personal GTS server online.

Re: So I got a new modem for wi-fi shenanigans...
I knew this day would come, servers cost money to run, a few one time purchases of a DS game by a few million users aren't gonna cover it. they'd need to establish some sort of dues for players, if even a nominal dues of a few cents per user.
want to make your own server?
it's not as complicated as it sounds, you just need a wifi router and a script that handles the messages sent back and forth. friend codes would have to be regenerated though keep that in mind.
the first step is to intercept the transmission from the DS tryign to connect with said game, the next step is to figure out the encryption model used (search online, I'm sure someone somewhere knows) then, you need to decrypt the messages and find out what it's asking for on connect.
then you create a response that answers all it's statements and logs the user as connected on a specific port.
Next you need to develop a Client script which players can run which AUTO-redirects any DS game connections to your server along with their messages, something players can just open and run easily on their computer without installing anything, preferably something that can be stored on a usb disk.
the down side is you can't play on public wifi, the upside is you control all the messages sent back and forth over the server. so you could make everyone win, like in every battle the server would just automatically send both players "[the other player's player name], [pokemon], [fainted]" and log both players as winning. or you can just leave it normal.
