Post I finally cracked
Well, from now on I have to figure out how to use Ubuntu for the rest of my life, cause now I'm tired of Microsoft's bullshit. I'm, in fact, installing it as I type this.

After the PC's assembled, I'm thinking I'll use the laptop as a Ubuntu terminal.

I've never tried Ubuntu, but I'm guessing it is exactly the same as Mint.
Good choice, dude. The rest of the world is slowly joining you.

Especially asia.
I would have switched a long time ago if it wasn't because as a game dev, I need to be able to try my games on a windows computer.
Also, visual studio.

I started using Ubuntu back in 2007, I believe. Helped me get a job at one point too. It's really not hard to get used to and I prefer it greatly once you start figuring out the things you can do with it.

Not a big fan of the Unity interface they switched to in 2011 still, but there are plenty of variant DEs you can switch to with Ubuntu. Personally, I use Ubuntu Studio as it comes with a real-time kernel (useful for particular things like broadcasting) and lots of creative software for video, audio and graphical editing, and the DE is xfce but adjusted to look and feel nicer/more stylish/more like Gnome2 than Xubuntu uses.

if there was a variant that has a UI like windows xp or windows 7 then i would consider switching (if i could use the same games and programs on it)

But it's really hard to be a pirate since it is part Linux. Unless I find a Linux-exclusive torrent site, I have to be a law binding citizen..... but hey, built in torrent client, so that's something.

What are you getting on about? You want to download distros using bittorrent? 2/3rds of them prefer you downloading through that method.

There's zero difference. You can torrent them as much as you could otherwise. The difference is in USING the files once torrented, as a lot will not be designed for a linux environment (some will, and some will run through things like WINE, DOSBox, etc anyway, some older stuff will run better that way than on a newer version of Windows even). Of course, you could say the same for the reverse situation (torrenting games and software designed for linux on some other platform), but you're just more likely to find that the games and software designed for linux are already available free of charge anyway, and the use of torrent for them is again their primary distribution method. That's not a bad thing though. If it is, your criteria is foolishness.
