Man, flesh flies, particularly the huge ones, are like zombies (note that they are not exactly zombies, but more like the pregnant mothers are full of maggots read to be born [at least you're killing off the eggs and maggots, but not the fly; then again, flesh flies do consume flesh in some point of time]; however, there is at least one species of flesh flies [Wohlfahrtia magnifica] that infest the host with infectious maggots [may cause leprosy deformities and myiasis, the worst of diseases transmitted by flies in general {the flesh fly family gets the bad rap because they tough as hell and they can infect the facial areas}]). Hitting them in the wings and head with a buckshot of salt grains is doing very little. I think the problem is the quality of the grains. Still, I don't have flesh flies infesting my sites (to a cautious degree) so they are not exactly high priority, but flies do spread and mutate, they like cockroaches of ancient times.
Damage from myiasis attack can take in several areas. You do not want to have nasal and aural myiasis, where death by fever and brain damage can happen.

The real context of the post is to address how fly activity operates throughout periodic cycles. If you do put a flat board or such as soil moisturizer, be warned that flies also like moisture and whatever viral, bacterial, and fungal nutrition extracted from the soil. Wolf spiders may take refuge after the flies for easy capture of prey. Even worse, you may encounter burrow holes near or below the flat boards, especially if you placed refuse for decomposition. Still, the reason for burrows is most likely cooling temperatures and probably consumption of awaiting insects. Anyways, flies can congregate around these burrows so watch the smells.
I shouldn't really put in the flesh flies context in this post, but considering the uptick of mosquito activity during the summer still during or after covid outbreak, this recovery stage could open a can of worms.
