Windows ME
UD entry I wrote a long time ago: Quote: Windows ME is a viruse that mysteriously appeared from another planet. This alien viruse made more viruses.
Windows ME hatched from the gaping anus of Microsoft Labs. Microsoft labs makes some interesting viruses. They made Windows 95, 98, XP and 2000 (which was a very similar viruse indeed) In fact Windows 95 and 98 and ME they are all inbred brother's and sisters. That's why they are so dumb, and make bad things happen to our poor friend Mr computer. "I'm sorry to inform you...But you have Windows ME" "Windows ME is in all my nightmares, I can't escape it" "Can't sleep, Windows ME will eat me, and my chocolate ice cream"

Re: Windows ME
insert fluffy and cracked virus-free chinese windows here. it's true bo.
Chinese windows 7 ultimate, it's the place to be, especially if you can get the English language pack installed for you by the OEM which is as easy as 2 hours of someone else doing it for no cost to you.

Re: Windows ME
This review could apply even better to Windows 10, considering the forced upgrades, scary amounts of data gathering, automated changes of security settings, etc.

I recommend keeping a router and doing regular deep packet inspections.

Oh, by the way. People with windows 7 and 8, turn off auto update. This week, windows 10 will be automatically downloaded.

I recommend keeping a router and doing regular deep packet inspections. There was an update from microsoft. The update changed the name of one of the services doing it, and thus simply got around group policies and other configurations that would otherwise have stopped it. Not that it mattered, a guy did some tracking and found even with everything turned off, even after all the updates, etc. The machine was still sending large amounts of data in the background. Even when the hosts file was changed so that the servers being sent to went to nothing, and logs showed up in the event logs saying it couldn't reach whatever, it turned out it was still sending to the servers with a hardcoded IP address. Yea, the only way of cutting it off is to blacklist the IPs at a physical (not software) firewall. Wouldn't trust even that with the thing though.

Re: Windows ME
Same here. As long as my computer is working, I don't really need any additional updates other than critical ones.

Re: Windows ME
Yeah, this will be downloaded as if it is a critical update. Not as an optional one...

Re: Windows ME
And windows creates "critical" updates constantly. It's actually a big security problem not to have a lot of the updates, since there are a lot of terrible security flaws found in windows and related applications constantly.
Most the time when you hear about massive hacking, virus, or other compromising problems, it's either zero-day exploits (which you can't do much about) or attacks that hit only people who haven't updated in a while.
However, best solution is to stop using Windows unless you know what you're doing / are in a corporate environment with security measures from people that know what they're doing.

Re: Windows ME
So I gaggled up the system requirements for Windows 95 out of curiosity... System requirements for installing Windows 95: Personal computer with a 386DX or higher processor (486 and above recommended) 4 megabytes (MB) of memory (8 MB recommended) Typical hard disk space required to upgrade to Windows 95: 35-80 MB (The actual requirement varies depending on the features you choose to install.) https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/138349Wow. You could run that on a normal smartphone now and it'd be better than iOS.
