I don't really have a discussion or this or that. These are paintings, such and such. I don't think I can have a discussion outside the image board section for paintings. I guess collectibles and re-framing work, but it's usually on the fancy tier. This context is typically on showcase purposes anyways. Yes, it's slightly, or very Orientalism, but there's a certain appeal to the make-believe works, just as native narrative form their own sense of magical story-telling. To be specific, we are focusing on slavery topic, not just slave market, dating back around Greek/Roman/Oriental times. Now, I get the gist of it. Nowadays, slavery is condemned as inhumane practice in terms of some social standard/bill. I am just focusing on that selective time period and what goes on there. Otto Pilny: Sklavenmarkt, 1910. For this painting, I don't think the word, sklavenmarkt, or slave market is the correct definition. From what I see two guys are presenting or offering a spoils of war to some supposedly influential elder. The elder's guard acts as a receptionist for the elder, eager and pleased with the fruits of conquest. The captive women look certainly fine indeed, but the elder cannot be swayed by just mere women! He's the elder, and he needs to stand up up for his authority and respect for the swathes of territories and interests currently tied to his given conduct. He calmly puts down his hookah, looks up and goes, "What's up". In the far background, you can see troops returning probably from a non-combat situation, but serious nevertheless. One of them have his hand on his hip. He might be angry, maybe even jealous. Perhaps, the elder can transfer the captives in some circumstances. A mind to repurpose captives as hostages or body shields is an opportunity as well! Mmm... the possibilities! The theme songs to go with Otto Pilny's Sklavenmarkt? Hmm... This is a slave market in general. |
