A spiritual sequel was promised. To that effect, I will begin developing it here.

I collected feedback from youtube and NG. The biggest flaws were the lack of time to do things, small game world, and the fact that there were only two dateable characters. To that end, I have researched the development of a proper time system, and a superior method to generate dialog.

However, the materials for sale will not only be drugs, but even legal materials. For example, apples may be cheap in the countryside, while being a bit more costly in the urban areas.

In all the gaming world, I have never had such love for an inventory system as I have for that of Dark Cloud's.

In the game you can fish. When you have fish in your inventory they'll rot. So you have to put ice in your inventory next to the fish so the fish doesn't rot. The ice will melt over time. If you haven't played it you can download the rom and a working PS2 emulator after a quick search. It's worth playing just to get Xiao and Super Steve. Don't know who Xiao is?

Item trading quests being an RPG staple I say we mix that up with the mini-games. In Pokémon you had to gamble to get certain pokémon as well as certain TMs. You also had to evolve certain pokémon during certain times of day to get the right evolution. I say we combine all this into a mix of mini-games of chance like a Japanese festival. Catch goldfish with a paper spoon, shoot Shinji dolls with a rigged pop-gun, try to toss rings onto prizes, meatball eating contests. You can't do them all during the time allotted and have to choose your ending and work towards it. The "festival" (Carnival dé Forkheads?) happens after some trigger and lasts some count of some action. Like licking the frozen lamp post triggers it and each event you do consumes a number of hours (increase counter by X) until the festival closes.

Some endings will require an Asuka mask, some might require ten goldfish, some might require a "don't rape me" ward of protection. This builds the mini-games into the overall plot naturally while still allowing for full potential of unforeseen nonsense.

The number of shops should be the number of people in the game, with as many or more items. Each play-through the entire world should be populated with random junk based off a seed (this number should be configurable for both debugging and cheating purposes) and every NPC should let you trade with them, perhaps after some criteria is met. Most of the items will be useless, worthless or otherwise a waste of inventory space and not all will be immediately evident. "Pocket lint" seems worthless, maybe it is; "Really Shiny Padlock" seems important but the reason it costs 40,000 magic good is that the NPC hates you.

There should be a list of items that always populate. These items might be added during the first step of the populating code to ensure that quests are not fucked with. There might also be items that any NPC might have and are only important to certain side quests; such items might be randomly distributed but always in the game somewhere. It might look something like this:


(Sorry for the ugly code, I'm an ASM programmer first and it's hard to want to use things like for loops and do/whiles. Just be happy I didn't add JNEs and such. This is just some pseudo-code.)

You might have to meet some sort of criteria to use the shop. Give them a rimjob, give them a golden dildo, wear the flesh of their dead lover, have a gun (and enough ammo to mean shit). A simple check against the player or NPC inventory or a global list of variables and you could get kindly denied, punched for -100 magic good or a punt to the eye for -80 HP.

While I like the interesting things Dark Cloud did with the item screen like the Icenexttofish, lets be honest, the rest of the inventory is shitty.

Keep the icenexttofish idea, but drop the rest of everything Dark Cloud did with the inventory.

Dark Cloud is a good game, but very tedious and boring after a while. But I digress.

I actually love this inventory and everything about it, but I think it's too large scale for the project were currently doing.

Pinkie Pie/Pinkamena Diane Pie
Pinkie Pie is NOT RANDOM. She’s just on crack and uses everything she can to distract from the boredom of growing up on a rock farm. Her N.O. is great enough to steal entire star systems and Medical Mechanica has a bounty of $$60,000,000,000 on her head. She’s followed around by her two sisters Inky and Blinky; they died during a Diglett stampede on the rock farm when Pinkie was younger.

(Seeing the graves of Inky and Blinky when visiting the graveyard causes Pinkie to become unhinged and revert to Pinkamena. This fact will have to be discovered and will not be hinted to in any way other than the graves being marked in the graveyard.)

Pinkamena has a penchant for acts of gleeful mayhem and will gut a mother fucker for a bottle of tequila. An antisocial pony, Pinkamena is rude and crass with a mouth like an unwashed sailor. Few have seen Pinkamena before and will try to reason with the “inner Pinkie”; if unsuccessful Pinkamena will be flung into an unstoppable rampage and bring about the end of Equestria as foretold in the forgotten legends. {BAD END?}

Fluttershy
Fluttershy is an international supermodel and (not so) secret bulimic. Her voice is soft from years of having to fit into saddles nopony could actually wear. Her pimp, Angel, keeps her well supplied with Horse and makes sure nobody roughs up his main strawberry. She runs “Flutterhy’s Cottage,” an animal rescue for victims of the Timberwolves. A passive pony in public, she’s a total freak in private and doesn’t care what side of the whip she’s on. {ENDINGS?}

Rarity
Rarity has made a fortune selling clothes to nudists and using her magic to find gems by the ton. Able to spin hay into gold, she has no interest in material goods and is well known for her generosity. She does, however, have a crippling addiction to cosmetics and hair products. She’s very proud of her mane and enjoys three-ways with Lotus Blossom and Aloe.

Applejack
An old fashioned pony, Applejack enjoys an honest day’s work. She can often be found drinking cider and goofing off with Rainbow Dash. “Work hard; play hard” is her motto. Always down for a tumble in the barn, Applejack rides it cowgirl style. She’s very competitive and never backs down from a chance to show off.

Rainbow Dash
A Wondercolts cadet, Rainbow dash holds the current unassisted speed record at Mach 1.4 and climbing as she continues to push herself. She also enjoys getting blazed and tagging Cloudsdale every color but white. Her friends know her to be loyal but this pegasus just wants to spend all day reading books and watching the local orphan pegasi. Totally uncreepy.

Twilight Sparkle/Princess Twilight Sparkle
A total nerd, Twilight loses her shit over books. Don’t try and tell her anything because chances are she’ll just correct you and make you feel dumb. She enjoys telling Spike what to do, being smarter than everypony and finding new ways to reorganize her library. She believes only in the scientific laws of magic and denounces all gypsy magic. As a self-appointed honorary princess and dragon slayer she leads her merry bands of misfits against the evil Sherriff of Nottingham. At least she does when she writes herself into her slash fanfics.

(When you “accidentally” the whole thing, she fixes it and becomes an alicorn then gets crowned.)

As unstable in the air as in the head, Princess Twilight has decided to act on her fantasies and begins to play out her fanfics on those around her. With an unhealthy obsession for dolls and tiny outfits, she is more than willing to cosplay at the drop of a hat. Since she has no royal duties she spends a lot of time neglecting the castle in ruins that she was given to fix up.

Derpy Hooves
A sweet soul who only means the best, Derpy often breaks everything she touches and manages to make things even worse than actually possible. A sniper in the war, she suffers from mild PTSD and a deleterious nerve condition which left her tragically wall-eyed. Baked goods and her favorite pony in the whole world, Dinky, keep her mind off how she’s slowly losing her grip on reality. She has 487 days until she dies.

Nightmare Moon/Princess Luna
Banished to the moon for a thousand years, Nightmare Moon has been plotting her revenge on her older sister the entire time. On that promised day she’ll send Celestia to the Sun! Mu wa ha ha ha ha! After that she’s pretty much up for anything and will probably need to catch up on the latest anime and work on her cosplay. Just don’t mention her sister.

(If you convince Twilight that “books aren’t as good as the real thing” she’ll revert Nightmare Moon into Princess Luna.)

The lonely guardian of justice, Sailor Moon, I mean, Princess Luna is a pony out of time. Misguided into thinking “steampunk” is futuristic, she’s easily tricked and just wants to be accepted. She’s very oldschool and speaks in the royal voice, uses the royal “we” and talks about first season Bleach like it’s still airing. Oddly, she still likes the moon.

Princess Celestia
Not evil because she didn’t make herself the queen, Princess Celestia enjoys nothing more than trolling. She and Discord used to terrorize the USS Enterprise and now spend most of their days playing pranks on unsuspecting ponies. She likes playing pranks on her little sister the most and collects voodoo dolls of particularly fun targets.

Rarity: She may be a world-famous fasion designer, but her spectacular designs and non-elucidean methodologies come not from the mind of a genius, but from a brain driven by the use of shrooms and acid. if she gets into a creative rut, she WILL bombard you with wealth for all the shrooms and acid she can buy.

Applejack: Applejack loves apples. She buys them off you, accepts them as gifts and overall is quite glad to be your friend as long as you keep her appetite for apples sated. Innocent, right? There's a dark secret about this; she is obsessed with apples because of the cyanide in the seeds. She ingests them to experience the infinity between life and death - just enough to reach the brink, but never enough to fall.

Rainbow Dash: The secret to her speed and skill is a focussed mind; a state she gained by experimenting with meth and weed. While her dependency on ampetamines and weed make her a lazy and unmotivated person, she will go above and beyond her usual lazy self to help anyone who keeps her well-stocked with weed.

Twilight Sparkle: A hikkikomori who loves books and science/magic. She likes books, magic scrolls and mescaline, which she uses as a discreet study aid.

Princess Twilight Sparkle: Get her addicted to opium after she becomes the princess, and she'll buy it off you at a high price.

Derpy Hooves: Derphy's deletorous nerve condition causes her intense pain - she's just very good at hiding it. She has become used to using heroin and morphine to alleivate her pain. She may not look it - but her vet fund keeps her well stocked with money; money that can be yours for a price.

Nightmare Moon: On the nights of the full moon, she will appear at [LOCATION] and sell you a very expensive aphrosidiac called moon-dust. There is a certain person who will buy moon dust off you at a massively inflated price.

Princess Luna: Discovered the joy of exctasy/MDMA while she got invited to a seedy dive disco. Although she is harder to convince, she pays a larger amount of money for exctasy/ or will offer to increase your Charisma for a dose.

Princess Celestia: She leads Ponyville's anti-drug task force. But dark rumors whisper that her resolve to break the addiction may be faltering. Has a tsundere relationship with Discord.

[dark ending]: Get her addicted to her vices, and she willingly submits to you as a love slave.
[light ending]: Keep her free from drugs to the point an event forces her to go completely cold-turkey. shit happens. Are you a bad enough dude to view the ending?
[neutral ending]: Only on easy mode. She mocks you for playing on easy mode, and dumps you.
