Post My Experimental Project
Some time ago I started an experimental flash game. The purpose of this was mostly to see what kind of things I could do and get a general idea around it more so than create a viable product for fun and enjoyment of others. I spent like a solid month on it. Most of the work got done in one sleepless programming night before it was due. The game is still unfinished. That being said I don't think I will ever have it at a point where it is "finished." However I would like to make a few updates before presenting it to Yom and/or the general populace. The first and most important piece is updating the character assets. I had a shitty looking head/hair, feet, and chest for my main character. I have created newer still shitty looking pieces for these. However I need to find a way to import them in a fashion that sizes and places them correctly in respect to the original pieces. Otherwise I will be forced to jam it in there and hope it looks decent with my already pre-made shitty animations. Please let me know if you have ideas, clues or whatever. I'll attempt to figure it out on my own as well. It was just pissing me off so I should move on to something else that way I don't consider this whole night a huge waste.

Yom, is it okay for me to post about non FH specific flash in the dev forum? if not please move this somewhere else.

welp I accidentally fucked up and killed my old shit pretty hard. The character animations weren't good by any real standard, but I did bust ass on them once upon a time. upon fucking up, I raged pretty hard in the ajax chat. This is when I came to the following realization:

I am through reconstructing the animations completely simply for my shitty character to look still shitty with now worse animations.....whatever it's fine. Frankly it looks shaky and disorienting and gross, but whatever.
Also fixed the foot tapping action after it was broken due to previous follies. (8 secs of idle)

To go in hopefully soon...
mute (so I can play music and you guys can turn it off) (music is already in, but I turned off for annoying factor)

future: tons of stuff, but probably start music up again, maybe vol controls, bird, eventually cinematic, fight? (don't get excited it'll be crappy and most simple implementation)

Generally the code behind this was constructed in a tired night and is therefore almost as shitty as the animations (see jumping)

lessons learned: sleep is good, don't fuck up and always keep multiple saves.

Think that should work. Hope you like it Yom. there are a lot of small things you may not notice. I'll point them out if you don't figure it out. anyway hopefully I can get a few hrs of sleep before work now ...lol.

yeah i have a pretty organized structure, but I just am too minimalistic I guess to save backups. I should setup some type of versioning.

The trick with keeping the animation but changing the assets is making the graphics inside both movieclips match in terms of coordinates and rotation.
Open your old movieclip or graphics object, select the drawn stuff, copy it, go to your new movieclip/graphics object, make a new layer (let's call it layer 2), right click, and click "paste in place". lock layer 2 and make it let noticeable by perhaps using the outline function (click the colored square on your layer).
What you want to do now is edit the art in layer 1 so it is placed,scaled,rotated,etc in the same way your art in layer 2 is. For example, place the leg so that the foot and knee matches the foot and knee of the old drawing. You can then remove layer 2.

Now, your new movieclip/graphics object matches your old one, but you still need to replace the old one.
rightclick your old movieclip/graphics object, and hit "swap Symbol". Select your new object from the list and voilé!

Make sure you have swapped the object in every keyframe it is used.
