Re: Life Support system, terminated...
BGMI decided to take a closer look at my surroundings. Best know the lay of the land, if I'm forced to run, right?. So, very carefully, I knelt down and began quietly crawling towards the tunnel on the right, straining my ears to hear any activity and hostile movements. As I moved forwards, my eyes sensed some black chunks poking out of the rock. Could it be what I thought it was? Carefully pulling out one of the rocks, I smiled as it left a small dusting of soot on my hazmat suit's gloves. Coal. "Could come in handy", I thought to myself, mentally marking the location of the vein. The small passage ended with another fork, again left and right. The right fork ended suddenly. I decided that I would need more rope if I were to descend that pit. Shaking my head, I left to take a look at the other path, a small corridor that wandered off. As I crawled along, I noticed that the tunnel was getting narrower. Carefully adjusting my grip on the plasmic blade, I continued along the corridor. Suddenly, my hand sank into the dirt, and with a soft thunk, it pulled itself away. Shocked, I recoiled in horror as a section caved in, leaving a small hole in the corridor. One look down was all that was needed to confirm my fears. I was quite stuck in a labyrinth of caves. Panicking, I slowed down my breathing, and listened to any suspicious sounds. Aside from the silent clicks of my hazmat suit, it detected nothing. I continued my crawl across the corridor. The corridor continued to narrow out, until it ended at a wall of loose soil. As I looked at this obstacle, some of the gravel fell away, revealing a tunnel on the other side. Of course! This was a cave in, and if I could get it out of the way, I'd be able to continue. Putting away my plasmic blade, I carefully looked around before I started digging away with my hands. Ahhah! As I suspected! There was a passageway past the cave in!. Excited, I almost forgot to crawl as I continued along the newly exposed passageway. My excitement did not last, though. The way I found was a dead end. Sighing. I decided to check out the tunnel to my left. As I crawled on top of the dirt, my stomach suddenly lurched, as I found myself falling into another cavern!. The impact hit, right through the hazmat suit, scraping some skin. I winced in pain, and looked at the hole one last time, cursing myself for forgetting to crawl. That's when something whizzed through the air, missing me by inches. I rolled back towards some rocks, and realized I had fallen right into the sights of one of those mysterious bony creatures that had attacked me. Preparing my plasmic blade, I then swiftly moved from outcropping to rock, outflanking it. As it was busy nocking another arrow into it's bow, I rushed out, and buried my blade in it's skull. The light in it's eyes went out and it keeled over. My hazmat suit noticed some bio-hazardous material, but the reading faded away almost immediately. I decided to keep a bone for analysis. As I went though this cavern, I noticed a small grotto with an unusual dusting of dirt. My attention thus gained, I realized there was light coming from the end of the tunnel. My hopes renewed again, I entered the grotto. Barely enough to fit, I slid along the side of the wall, and there was no mistaking it. Sunlight. In a frenzy, I dug, not caring if some fell creature from the depths took me. In a few moments, I stood at the bottom of what appeared to be a dried-up pond. Scrabbling up the surface, I saw the all-too familiar Albert Johnson wing in the distance. Signing in relief, I marked the position of the once-pond with my waypoint markers, and decided to walk home.

Re: Life Support system, terminated...
The crevasse was on top of a large cliff. Going down seemed like a logical idea.
Also, there was a bit of a climb involved in the cavern.

Re: Life Support system, terminated...
It was a while before I managed to heal from the wounds I had suffered during my trip to the mountains. But now, I feel that I have sufficient strength to begin expanding my camp. Two reasons for this; I needed more room if I was to develop a proper radio beacon, and secondly, I needed to dig up my spaceship. I couldn't repair it if it was all smashed up under dirt, ya dig?. I know the chances of me actually managing to repair the thing is minimal at best; but it's always good to have something to do, huh? After a quick meal, I collected a shovel, a pick and surveyed the area I had to dig up. Calculating my options, I decided to make a fence, reinforced with stone to drive away the monsters that would surely attack the excavation site. Returning to my inventory room, I collected a bundle of sticks. It was hard work, but at the end of the day, I had a good fence around the area I intended to excavate. A sudden idea came to mind - I had observed that the creatures that wandered the world feared light and did not appear during the daytime. Could such an effect be emulated by sufficient lighting in the area I wanted to excavate? I had little time left to finish, but I was energized at the thought. Grabbing some torches I had meant to use when going exploring in the caves nearby, I went around, carefully attaching the torches to sconces, so as not to set the area ablaze. Night had already fallen when I had finished this task. I quickly entered the observation room in the HQ and began my watch. Smiling, I noticed to myself that none of the creatures entered the perimeter. Jubilant at my success, I decided to climb the wall and take another look. Not one of those creatures dared to enter!. I whooped with joy as I realized I was no longer bound to the camp at night. However, exhaustion soon caught up with me, and I decided to sleep. Tomorrow, the real excavation starts!

Re: Life Support system, terminated...
GREAT WORK! Moar! I can see some postapocalyptic aspects from books and RPG's i played, first half reminds me at times of Metro 2033 / 2034 and Warhammer 40.000. Fallout music is awesome... I sugest meaby some Stalker-like aspects in story, like finding some alien ruins, sneaking around, salvagin parts, sabotages etc.

Re: Life Support system, terminated...
I've been holding off doing this, but to work off the depression, I decided to start working on excavating the ship. After a quick breakfast, I surveyed the land. I'd need a lot of spades to scrape off the dirt... Night was falling as I finished excavating the upper layer, exposing the ship's somewhat damaged top-layer. I found something spectacular while scraping off the dirt. But you guys will have to wait till morning to see it. I'm... so tired...

Re: Life Support system, terminated...
Been waiting, haven't ya. Well... this is what I found while digging up the site. ... okay, how about a closer look? ... Still not sure what it is? Well, good sir/lady/whatever! I'll explain. It's an electrical generator that uses fuel to generate electricity!. ... but yeah. Fuel. The stuff from the generator... leaked into that creepy cave some time ago... HEY! I bet I could get some fuel from that other place at the hills! I guess one bucket will do.... for now. Walking back, I was suddenly hit with the realization that it had started raining. Alarmed at first, I made for shelter, before realizing that it was just water. Whatever this planet was, it was pretty okay to live in... except for those monsters that'd come out at night... Say, is that snow, far over there? "Hey you, crevasse! FUCK YOU! Ahhahahahaha!" With the fuel now poured into its tank, the generator gave a short puff as it started spinning its internal motors. The electrical contacts lit up as power began to surge through it. Now I wouldnt have to worry about the computer's fusion battery dying on me. Today was a good day.
