What the fuck is waifu2x? It's just a noise reduction tool that goes by the estimate of color tone and what not. Basically, if you don't mind color blend and blur into a simplistic minimalistic concept of cubism, industrialism, iconic two-tone che portraits, or something like that, then, no problem.
If you really need the bits or pixels to enact the matter of detail, I recommend to not use this tool as it only reduces pixel color groups into fucking segments. It wouldn't work for a PC-98 illustration, but I haven't tried since it is technically the same style. Actually, it really ought to go that route, but that's my opinion. Anyways, it's the pixel color definition that matters here!
