 English major I'm thinking about taking a English major. I want to do this because Id like to teach English to foreign people (Preferably Japanese) and maybe I'll have the opportunity to learn Japanese on the way too, so I can play all those crazy games I saw over the years.
As for my other idea for a career, Computer Service Technician ; that's a lot easier to attain, because I have a lot of the skills already. Though I've been hesitating on it since I dont really feel I would be entirely happy doing it.
So what are your thoughts about careers? On these ones mentioned and your own experiences with your careers/education.

Re: English major Shit loads of training to becme a teacher. YOU will not be able to do it. Not to question your abillities but you will get bored long before you get what you need (then again the teachers in THIS country are pretty dumb lol could move to England).

Re: English major If you have your heart set on teaching and can stick with it, then you could just take enough classes to get a CSTech job, sense they generally make decent money, and do that for 2 reasons, 1) To pay help pay your way to get your teaching degree, and 2) to decide wether or not you could actually see yourself doing that as a liveing, and, if so, you could drop the Eng. stuff, and take more CS tech classes and get an even better position.

Re: English major as my mother is a teacher it will take a long time (I forgot how long majors take) but teacher training takes about 3 years not to mention learning a 2nd language if you are gonna move to japan to teach there

Re: English major Everyone and their dog wants to move to Japan and teach English there; they have a glut of English teachers and getting a visa there is hard (they HATE foreigners). But if you love teaching, don't let anyone stop you.
