I think it's plausible physical objects can be transported in distant future. Our knowledge of quantum physics is extremely limited. I mean, it was just recently we figured out that atoms can die. I'm seriously hoping somehow development of nanotechnology could go help us with development quantum tunneling. I think since the concept is out, it shouldn't take us too long to break new ground technologically. However, the time taken is probably still going to be fairly long. As I said, in certain areas, we are very underdeveloped right now. That or we just have very limited understanding.

To look at it from another perspective. The Instantaneous Transportation of Atoms? Maybe using wormholes, but they are the stuff of science fiction. As far as we know only information between atoms can be teleported, and this will probably remain restricted to the minute scale for computers. Using quantum teleportation and entanglement, quibts are transported. Many people highly doubt that a random mass of atoms would spontaneously form the original object of desired teleportation once every single quibt is transported, otherwise that would be very impractical for the computing technology scientists are dreaming up. If for example you wanted to teleport a human (as is the obvious dream), you would have make an exact replica of the persons fleshy form to allow the information to manifest itself as an identical copy of the life including personality etc. Huge undertaking, and even then you are basically destroying one life and making a replica of it.

Which raises interesting philosophical questions. Considering memories and ideas seem to make up ones personality, if a dead blob of engineered flesh acquires this information then it is that original person. As Dr. Manhattan said: "A live human body and a deceased human body have the same number of particles. Structurally there's no difference."

To tie it all up, chances of it happening realistically: very low. My idealism talking? Hell yes. I have absolute faith in Quantum Mechanics.

I read this and thought of Willie Wonka's TV(Not what you're saying, just thoughts). Wormholes are science fiction and will probably never be utilized. I honestly doubt anything will come from them. But at the point we are able to dissasemble and reassemble humans... My god the consequences. One mistake could change everything. Groups would be in uproar until we figure out a safe solution. Opportunists might tweak the machines. We could bring the dead back to life. Store people. Clone. The world would change.

On that note I hope it never happens. If we haven't changed how we are by that point we'll destroy ourselves. I wish we could use it responsibly but I can't see it now. I love the idea, but the actual reaction is worrisome.
