NK =/= a threat to the US of any kind
Russia =/= a threat to the US of any kind
on the same note however USA =/= a threat to Russia as we are the only 2 country s in this world that would be a logistical nightmare to invade even for eachother

the only country North Korea poses a threat to is South Korea (if USA wasnt there) and any other 3rd world country, their army is a conscript army conscript armys =/= a threat in this day and age nukes =/= a threat as most country's have made themselves so well defended against them

Post Re: iraq what we relly need too do
A: India and Pakistan are set in a Mutually assured destruction scenario. The only nation they can even threated is Israel, and they make a big deal outta it, but the simple fact is that they have nukes and will use them. You know Israel dun think twice about using force, for arguably sound reasons.

B: N Korea is falling apart. We make a big deal outta it so that we can keep our S Korean base. Any action they might take against the US or S Korea would assure their destruction and the killing of their heads of state and military. Just like Pakistan they rattle their sabre, but they know better.

C: Europe and the rest of Old Britainia along with the US form one power block.

Until the last few years there were the three distinct power blocks. What we SHOULD have done was peel Russia off to our side after the cold war. US+RUSSIA > China any day. However instead of making small concessions and courting them we insulted and pushed them away. I would argue that as a direct result of that Russia was wooed by the "developing nations" and the BRIC block was formed.. or at least named fairly recently. This is Brazil Russia India and China.
You see, while Russia was effectively neutral we balanced china militarily. However this shift and Russia's apparent alliance this changes the dynamics of all areas of foreign policy. Now with added pressure and an official alliance there will be more pushes to add seats to the permanent security council, considering the fact that these additions would not be US allies makes the situation worse since each permanent member nation gets a veto.

These are the actual international relationships through a reality lens. Ignore the news as soon as they start talking foreign policy. Its lies.

Whatever the "foreign policy" reasons for these wars the main thing it seems to be doing is De-Developing areas of the middle east, causing out massive debt to balloon through payments into military budgets (in other words to buy lotsa shit from big defense contractors ;] ) , annd serve as an excuse to allow torture, secret prisons, secret arrests, and a whole laundry list of abuses that I won't rant on here and now.

Now for my opinion on the actual question asked? I would quote Ron Paul-
"We marched in there without a UN mandate or a declaration of war from congress, we can march right back home the same way."

We aren't even getting any material imperial gain out of it.. any of it.
We need to bring them all home and just develop our own oil resources that the federal Gov't keeps blocking.
(but remember, we're not there for the oil anyways. We are there to spread freedom. Those are liberty bombs and freedom bullets and if you ever forget that you hate the troops. :3 )

And with that I am done. Good night, and remain vigilant.

i like the cut of your jib
even with the casting aside and insults USA and Russia are honestly pretty tight, im sure there is resentment but we are like the big brothers of the family if we start fighting then the rest of the family (the world) will fall into disarray the world market is hugely dependent on the USA as we are a consumer nation. Even china realizes this. all sarcasm aside however there are a few reasons to be in iraq then now and maybe in the future. if the middle east destabilizes without the overseeing eye of another big brother nation, terrorist cells like alquesadila would literally run amuck.

There are 3 types of wars good old fashioned one nation fighting another over territory, there is nuclear wars and then there are wars like the war on terror. the first two types are very upfront you know who is who clear and concise rules of engagement , or everything is blown to shit. in a war like the one against terrorist cells everything is extremely unclear, rules of engagement rule over everything and becomes a huge hindrance, example. Weaponoligy was picking the history of snipers apart to see how they have evolved, part of it was some USMC scout snipers telling some storys about iraq and Afghanistan. One of the storys told was a sniper team was posting on a rooftop when a call came in about 2 masked terrorists doing hit and run small arms fire on a humvee caravan. The spotter spotted the two masked men clothes that were sweat stained and AK47s in arm reloading, the sniper had the melon sized head of one of them in right on his crosshairs sight, but rules of engagement dictate he had to call it in and get clearance. to make a long story short the USMC scout didnt get to splatter any melons on any walls because by the time he got clearance for the shot the two masked men were gone plotting another attack. Fighting guerrilla fighters is insanely difficult. Just ask the UK, hell ask America we learned the hard way in Vietnam(way to go France we could have won if you didnt fail so hard at war)

BUT SLSO IF WE WEREN'T THERE THEY WOULDN'T BE ATTACKING US!
wrong the day we leave the middle east alone there will be huge uprisings and the ISDF will be stuck waiting for guerrilla suicide bombers to come put things in their butt. Then they will have 0% trouble getting into the USA(seeing as they are already there) They wont leave us alone, so yeah were going there and we are giving some deep anal penetration. Who cares if we turn them to freedom in the process?

No empirical gain?
gas prices are high as fuck yes i know this all to well
however seeing as the USA is the one occupying why dont you compare our national avrg per gallon/barrel to any other country's. Especially the UK, Holy fucking shit the UK has high gas prices, i almost feel bad for them.

Post Re: iraq what we relly need too do
Okay, I am liking how this sounds, however..
If you follow your logic, believe me Russia will be there the day we leave. If we're still so tight that shouldn't matter. BUT as for who we are supporting.. Does stability come from the Muslim Brotherhood? It seems to me that that would bring internal security. The people would like it. However that regime would bring massive external security threats.
You mentioned Al Quaieda? In Libya most of the rebels we are backing and sending money and "advisors" to are under that banner. They are the same ones we used against the USSR and now that we are done needing them for an imaginary enemy we're backing them again. They're a name, not a group.

I would say that we should keep the bases we have and harden them. After that just maintain "just enough" influence so that they can appear to be independant to their people while still being under our control. Traditionally the way to do this is to "help them" create their internal security and intelligence services and fill out the ranks with people.. monetarily sympathetic to america. :3

However the largest impacts of the "war on terror" can be felt at home. Do I need to post the videos of a 7 year old girl being molested by TSA? Need I reference a former Miss America in tears at the airport after TSA "officers" gave her the "intensive patdown"?
The simple fact is the war on terror is far less about people internationally than it is the american population.

I leave with this:
"Some of the biggest men in the United States, in the field of commerce and manufacture, are afraid of something. They know that there is a power somewhere so organized, so subtle, so watchful, so interlocked, so complete, so pervasive, that they had better not speak above their breath when they speak in condemnation of it." - Woodrow Wilson

Adn we still feel the impact of this 11 years later.
