I think I know a little secret to how successful a rpg can be. You got to focus on the little chaffing annoying gimmick features that build up to a fucking disease or something like that.
One fucking bad thing that persists in rpgs is the farming/grinding experience. Where you and your comrades must persist in a a infinite swarm of random encounters or enemy respawnings, your best bet to train up is your health items and whatever healing magic. Both methods are limited in supply, hell, even your summons might consume magic too as well. You're lucky if they don't. You're luckier if you managed to find a reliable supply source. To be more luckier, is if you can rest in the grind fields, like roguelike or something. But what would top this need to refill means of health and magic points? If you didn't have to at all!
After each battle, you and your party automatically restores all their points, cutting off that annoying aspect and focus the grinding on the gameplay! It's so simple, yet profound!
